COMPLIANCE and EDUCATION

URS is a compliance oriented collection agency, compliant with the changing regulations in the debt collection industry and committed to the continuing education of our staff and our clients. URS adheres to the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, Health Insurance Portability & Accountability Act, Fair Credit Reporting Act, Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act, and the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act.

FDCPA

The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act was passed by Congress in response to abusive conduct by collection agencies, and concern that the abuses were causing an increase in the filings of personal bankruptcies. The purpose of the Act is to provide guidelines for collection agencies which are seeking to collect legitimate debts, while providing protections and remedies for debtors.

HIPAA

The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, was enacted by the U.S. Congress in 1996, and became effective July 1, 1997. This act is a grouping of regulations that work to combat waste, fraud, and abuse in health care delivery and health insurance. The intention of HIPAA is to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the health care system, portability and continuity of health insurance coverage in the group and individual markets, as well as the ability to provide consequences to those that do not apply with the regulations explicitly stated within the Act.

FCRA

The Fair Credit Reporting Act is a federal law that details how consumer credit information can be collected, given out, and used. Under the FCRA, consumers have a right to view information in their credit file and dispute inaccurate information.

GLBA

The Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act passed in 1999 that allows financial institutions to offer a full range of services and imposes strict controls on how institutions share or disclose personal financial information.

SCRA

The Servicemembers Civil Relief Act provides a wide range of protections for individuals entering, called to active duty in the military, or depoloyed servicemembers.  It is intended to postpone or suspend certain civil obligations.
